· The Beauty of Line ·
Thin wire falls tight towards the light, suspended from the ceiling, strong with shadow green.

There is no telling whether an artwork will draw me back to enjoy it over a period of years. I might consider something immeasurably beautiful, however over time my feelings can fade. I often ponder on why any given work of art sustains its impact.
I took this photograph in a small reading library in Oxford as I descended a staircase. I was immediately inspired by the ceiling, forms, and lighting. As no one was seated in the library I could quickly capture the geometric interplay of dominant horizontal and vertical lines that I found, and continue to find, so captivating.
I enjoy the still tension of this piece with its endless reminder of gravity. I think of our considerable and perpetual effort as humans during our waking hours as we hold ourselves upright for as long as we have the strength and ability to do so. I reflect upon the skill and design we use to build in opposition to the constant pull of the earth's core, and how beauty can at times emerge from our toil.
