This work is dedicated to Billy.
.
Whatever our darkness, daybreak will unfold.
.
Billy was among a group of eighteen university students along with my son who began their studies of philosophy and literature. My son spoke of Billy as someone thoughtful, generous and kind. Someone he hoped to grow in friendship with. Billy's death during a time of winter celebration was from natural causes and completely unexpected. His passing was blameless and without accident or malice. His sudden loss was devastating to his family and those who loved and knew him.
In times of grief, no matter its cause, our strength is born of kindness.
Although I never met Billy he has touched my life.
As I spoke with my aunt who is in her nineties and had never known of him, tears welled in our eyes.
Daybreak, a period of beginnings and reflection.
